Automated Analysis of Breast Tissue Microarray Images
Tissue microarrays (TMAs) are a high-throughput technique that facilitates the survey of large numbers of tumours. There is strong clinical and research motivation for the development of better methods for quantitative analysis of TMA images for breast and other cancer types. The rate-limiting step in translation of these data into patient care is their assessment by pathologists which suffers from quantization and variability. In collaboration with the Pathology (Jordan) and Dundee Cancer Centre (Thompson) at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, we are developing image analysis methods for automatic segmentation, classification and scoring of breast TMAs. This research has received funding from the Breast Cancer Research Trust, the Chief Scientist Office, and EPSRC.
